Meeting Minutes 2019-11-07 TianoCore Community Meeting (EMEA/NAMO)

Community Manager
? Stephano Cetola has moved to a position with the Linux Foundation. Thanks to Stephano for all of his work supporting and growing the TianoCore community.
? Brian Richardson (Intel) is temporarily serving as community manager, covering public facing items (community meetings, events). Thanks to other community members for help covering bug triage and design meetings.
? There is a plan to bring on a new community manager in a few months.
? Brian will update calendar invites for future meetings.

FOSDEM - Feb 1-2, 2020 in Brussels.
? Large open source firmware conference in Europe (~8,000 attendees).
? First year there is a dedicated 'open source firmware' track room. Covers topics like EDK II, coreboot, LinuxBoot, u-boot, and OpenBMC.
? Track room runs on Saturday (Feb 1). Should be a dozen 20 minute presentation slots available.
? CFP for firmware room closes December 1st.

UEFI SCT - UTWG is looking for contributors. Plans to integrate UEFI SCT into CI system, but not as many resources working on the project at this time.
? Discussion of plans to 'modernize' the UEFI SCT codebase? Discussion of test philosophy that generated duplicate protocols. Related to work in edk2-test/edk2-staging repo that should be evaluated for future updates.
? UEFI SCT CI integration would run in OVMF or EmulatorPkg on a cloud agent. Physical targets require a future version of the CI system.

TianoCore CI Process
? v4 patch series is under review. Maintainers will need to review before it is active on edk2 master.
? Uses pull request instead of direct push to trigger CI.
? Please use labeling properly (don't set 'push' label for personal build). Push label causes changes to be pushed if all tests pass.
? Tries to run all tests. Some tests (build) will halt at first failure, others will report all failures.
? CI tests can be run locally or in the cloud (Azure), but there is an issue with fragmenting checkers on local systems (different results from cloud vs local due to skipped tests). See updated documentation (repo readme in v4).
? Once CI is active and tested (1-2 weeks), write access on the CI repos will be restricted to admins.

Code First Process - under discussion in stewards' meeting
? Goal is a process to develop proposals for future UEFI spec improvements in open source prior to submission to the UEFI Forum.
? Repo for development - edk2-staging is preferred. Need to identify/filter 'code first' branches.
? Naming convention will be important to distinguish pre-spec implementations.
? Next Steps: RFC for code first process (under development).

Opens?
? Plans to switch to Linux line endings? Previously discussed.
		○ Still the plan. Won't make next stable tag, but should be considered for following stable tag (test for side-effects of conversion).
		○ Aligns EDK II with other open source repos.
		○ Risks of change - assumptions of line-ending style in build tools; custom tools by downstream consumers.
		○ Contributors should raise issues early to avoid/correct issues.
		○ A 'converted fork' can be used for community testing.

Thanks … br
