It’s a bug fix together with some code cleanup.

But the code cleanup doesn’t cause any CPU instruction change.

 Now, we are in soft feature freeze phase for stable tag 202102. In this phase, the bug fix is still allowed to be merged. So, is this change a bug fix or the code enhancement?
