edk2 also offers:

  MdeModulePkg/Universal/FvSimpleFileSystemDxe

(Please see "FvSimpleFileSystemDxe.inf" for a description -- "Its
primary intended use is to be able to start EFI applications embedded in
FVs from the UEFI shell".)
